Why would God allow suffering?

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Dear brothers & sisters,

Recent events in our world (Japanese Tsunami, Middle East uprising, etc…), those stricken w/ disease, as well as countless other injustices cause many, Christians and non-Christians alike, to ask the ultimate question, why would God allow suffering? If God is good and if God is love, then why? When it comes to our faith and practice as Christians being able to confidently answer this question in midst our charge in 1 Peter 3 to “make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you” is of vital importance.

Our Adult Sunday School series on apologetics is aiming, for the next 2 Sundays, to search God’s word for the answer to this question. I encourage your attendance as we challenge and encourage one other for the ultimate purpose of giving Him the glory!

Michael Thompson Benefit Concert

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Michael Thompson was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in June of 2008, shortly after his fourth child was born.  There is no cure for this form of cancer, but we are praying that God will graciously cause remission or even bring full healing.  This benefit concert is being organized by those who love Mike and Adriana as an opportunity to help alleviate some of the financial burdens that come with fighting cancer.

Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

TCBC Missions Month: September

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

We hare having our first annual TCBC Missions Month this upcoming September, 2010.

From beginning to end, the Bible testifies to God’s passion for His glory. In Isaiah 48:11, God declares that His glory is the ultimate “end” of His actions: “For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act; For how can My name be profaned? And My glory I will not give to another.” It must necessarily follow, then, that the spread of His glory is the chief end for which missions ex-ists. To miss God’s primary passion for missions is to miss the heart of missions.

Please pray for this upcoming month of September as we see how God is raising up men who are burdened to do the work of spreading God’s glory to the nations. We have invited 4 men who are actively involved in missions in varying degrees:

Our schedule is as follows:

Sept 5th – Nick will introduce us to the Vision for missions

Sept 12th – Stephen will explain the Call to missions

Sept 19th AM – Guest Speaker will show the the Preparation for missions
Sept 19th PM – Greg will explain the Church’s role in missions

Sept 26th – Nonilo will encourage us with the Work of Missions

Please be sure to also attend September 19th at 9am where Guest Speaker will teach Sunday School and share with us the new work that God has called him to do.

Wed. night bible study: Full of Promise

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

How do you view the Old Testament?  In your quiet times would you rather spend time in the New Testament because the Old Testament seems well.. really old?  Do you find the Old Testament hard to follow?  To help answer these questions and more we have started a new series called Full of Promise.  Jesus said, “Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.” (Luke 24:27).

It is a study of the Old Testament which helps us understand the purpose and plan of God to redeem His people through Christ.  Be encouraged once again as you find Christ throughout the Old Testament books.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s  of every month at the Lacson’s between 7-9pm.  We also have child-care and youth group that same evening at our main building.

Wed. night bible study: Spiritual Discernment

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Decisions, decisions!  How do we make decisions or handle challenging situations that God allows us to go through?  How can we discern right from wrong?  The Scriptures teach the importance of applying spiritual discernment:

But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.  – Hebrews 5:14

How can this be practically applied?  How do we train our powers of discernment?  Join our Wed. night bible study as we learn the fundamentals of developing our skill of spiritual discernment.

We meet every other week at the Lacson home.  For directions  or more information call (916) 877-6564.

The discernment notes can be downloaded here: Spiritual Discernment Notes.

Sunday School: Church History

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Winston Churchill once said, “Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.”

Our faith as Christians depends upon history.   Our faith is made possible because of a historic event where God became man and died for sinners.  Our justification is grounded on the historical resurrection event.

Come join this fascinating study of how the Jesus Christ continues to build His church through the centuries and uses imperfect vessels for His glorious purposes.

Our Sunday School hour starts at 9am-10am.  Child-care and breakfast are provided.
